After viewing the some facts regarding community college published by the American Association of Community Colleges, a few figures really stood out to me. One of these was the fact that there are over 1,000 different community colleges in the United States, on average over 20 in each state. This number provides students all over the nation the opportunity to attend college and work their way up to earning an Associate Degree. Another statistic that stood out to me was the difference in the median earning of full-time employees varying on the different degrees earned, with a Bachelor’s Degree making almost twice as much as just a high school diploma. Perhaps the most astounding figure was the difference in the average annual tuition of community college as compared to 4 year colleges. The average community college tuition was just $3,660, while universities averaged an annual tuition cost of $10,230.
